The Band's visit

I recently saw this movie, and I should I found it refreshing. The idea is simple - a band from Alexandria, Egypt is visiting someplace in Israel to play at an Arab culture centre there. However, they reach the airport (Tel
Aviv, i presume), but no-one turns up to receive them and they are left to find their own way to this place. Apparently, due to the nuances of Hebrew language, they get on the wrong bus and end up in the middle of nowhere. That effectively marks the starting point of the movie, and I shall not go into more of this for the fear of spoiling the fun for anyone planning to watch the movie.

The movie is mostly in mix of arabic (when the band is talking among themselves), hebrew (or maybe yiddish, not sure, when the locals speak) and english, when they talk to each other. The characters in the movie is
what makes it so appealing - everyday people - a proud old captain, who doesn't seem to have the respect of his sub-ordinates, the second in command of the band - who aspires to complete his unfinished piece and take charge of the band one day. A young man, who is almost rebelling against everything, a shy guy who gets his first kiss with a girl, a not so shy restaurant owner lady who takes pity on the band and offers
shelter.

The topics the movie touch on are not about arab-israel relations (which i almost expected in the movie), but something even more basic - about loneliness, human interaction, child-father relationships, self-esteem and
the like. Nothing is glorified, and nothing is 'said' however you revel in the way things move, in the way you identify with the characters in the movie - somebody you knew very closely, somebody you were, somebody you fear you might become....

Overheard

This one is short....

Overheard last night, as I walking back from a grocery shop with two bag full of shopping for the week (very mundane stuff inside the bags - ok, if you must know - semi-skimmed milk, corn flakes, bread etc., that sort of stuff.)

Anyways, deviating from the point. As i said - overheard last night, as i was walking home with shopping bags and i passed this local pub, with a guy and a woman standing out. Both puffing on a cigarette (if you don't know, smoking inside pubs is banned in the UK now! - so suddenly when you go to a pub with friends/colleagues now, most of the interesting talk and gossip happens outside. And if you don't smoke, you look like a total loser just hanging on with friends to not miss the talk. Becomes a moot point, if they offer u a cigarette and you say-'No thanks, i don't smoke'. They give you this look which sort of 'wtf, you standing here for?')

Anyhow, not to deviate from the point again. Ahem! As i was saying - overheard. The lady puffing on the cigarette had a glass of wine in one hand and the cigarette in the other. And all i heard of the conversation was this :

Lady : '....and she was a double J at the time. Can you imagine what thats like?'
Guy: 'hmm...not sure, its difficult'
Me (thinking, not aloud!) : 'Wow...did i hear that right? Is it what i am thinking it is?'

Lady: 'Yeah, its tricky - she was just a walking pair of massive boobies! Oh man..you should have seen her!'
Guy: '...'
Me(thinking, not aloud): 'Bang on, i was right....holy shit...walking pair of boobies...'

Lady: 'But now, she is a double D, she was been working out very hard and did a few other things..'
Guy: '...Wow...'
Me(thinking, not aloud): ' Wow...impressive, good for her.'

By this time, i was out of ear shot, and so readers, i do not have any more of this conversation!

But, I still wonder - 'there IS a double J?

Just saw this link on the BBC's website about a plane attempting a
landing in high winds! I was just wondering the state of the passengers
inside.
